Landscapes

I paint en plein air as well as in the studio. There's something rather thrilling about walking out from my front door with a bag of paints and a canvas, looking for a good spot to stop and paint. One of the best tonics is to visit the coast, breathe some sea air and draw or paint. On a trip to the sea, I will also take lots of photographs and try to keep that seaside feeling going when I get home by painting seascapes in the studio.

I started with oils, and still use these, but sometimes, especially if I don't want to carry too much stuff, I paint in watercolour. Recently, I've been exploring charcoal and black pastel and trying larger landscape drawings.
